An Australian tourist and his Thai girlfriend were arrested over their haul of illegal firearms in Thailand.

The suspect, named by police only as Adam, 37, and Athitiya, 39, were caught with the stash of unauthorised guns at their home in Udon Thani on June 16.

Footage shows police searching the couple's bedroom, where they seized three black rifles, three black silencers, and 3,500 bullets.

The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau said the raid was launched amid investigations into an illegal online shop called 'Goodluck Airrow' owned by nursery school teacher Surasit, 43, that the couple had ordered from.

Surasit reportedly sold illegal gun accessories, using terms like 'spare parts' to avoid detection.

The couple were found to have bought silencers from the shop 11 times under the username 'chase2023'.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wanchalerm See-on of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau said: 'The suspects admitted to owning the confiscated silencers, which they bought from the 'Goodluck Airrow' online shop.

‘We charged them with possessing firearms without permission from the local registrar and possessing weapons without permission from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, under Section 15 of the Arms Control Act.

'They have been taken to the inquiry officer for further legal action.'

Thailand has one of the highest gun ownership and gun homicide rates among Southeast Asian nations.

Though Thai authorities have vowed to tighten gun control, there are around 4 million unregistered guns, often smuggled from war-torn countries, in circulation, the Ministry of Interior said in 2023.
