Moment of highway bridge collapse: truck left hanging over the abyss.
At around 7:40 AM on June 24, a landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall caused the collapse of the Houzi River Grand Bridge on the G76 Xiarong Expressway in Sandu County, Guizhou Province.
A red cargo truck managed to brake in time during the collapse, but its cab was left hanging over an abyss more than 100 meters deep, with the driver trapped inside. Bystanders shouted warnings: “You’re lucky to be alive! Don’t move forward, wait for the firefighters!” Moments later, the road began to crack further, and people quickly retreated to safety.
Rescue personnel rushed to the scene and successfully extracted the driver through the truck’s window using safety ropes and ladders.
Three construction vehicles belonging to a nearby village were found beneath the collapsed bridge. Drone surveillance confirmed that there were no occupants in the vehicles, and no additional casualties were reported at the scene.
An investigation into the cause of the collapse and follow-up work is currently underway.
