Truck left hanging over abyss when bridge collapses in China
This is the heart-stopping moment a truck was left hanging over an abyss when a bridge collapsed during a landslide this morning in China.
Terrifying footage shows the haulage vehicle with its front end dangling in the air at the damaged Monkey River Bridge on the G76 Xiamen-Chengdu Expressway Gedu Line.
The truck's rear remained on the road while the driver was trapped at the precariously suspended front in Sandu County, Guizhou, on Tuesday, June 24.
Emergency crews safely extracted the distressed driver amid heavy rain using ropes and other equipment.
The incident occurred along the 1,263-kilometre stretch of the expressway, prompting temporary traffic restrictions for vehicles travelling from Guangxi to Guiyang.
Local media reported construction vehicles beneath the collapsed bridge, though drone inspections found no individuals present.
Officials said the collapse was caused by a landslide triggered by persistent heavy rainfall in Guizhou Province.
An investigation is currently underway.
