China: Smart tech revolutionizes China's gas pipeline operations
Storyline: Smart tech revolutionizes China's gas pipeline operations [Voice_over] In China, technologies like drones, augmented reality and artificial intelligence are taking natural gas pipeline management to a whole new level. At the end terminal of China's first West-East gas pipeline, workers now use AR glasses to view equipment data directly in their field of vision during safety inspections. The smart eyewear automatically flags critical checkpoints and features emergency call capabilities that facilitate remote consultations with off-site experts. And when it comes to pipeline patrols, drones and fiber-optic monitoring systems are replacing manual inspections with pinpoint accuracy. [Sound_bite] Sun Sheng, deputy manager, Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai Branch, West-East Gas Pipeline, PipeChina: "With digital and intelligent tools, we've moved away from the old 'boots-on-the-ground' patrol model and transitioned from traditional inspections to multi-dimensional sensing and smart protection." [Voice_over] At a command center for the West-East gas transmission project, 12 AI models process more than one billion data points every day to deliver precise gas flow predictions and equipment fault warnings. Officials also say the system has shortened emergency response times to just 15 minutes. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
