Borriol, Spain - June 27, 2025 A hiker was seriously injured after falling five meters in a forested area of Borriol, Castellón, on Friday. The incident occurred around 1:06 PM, prompting a swift emergency response. Initially, authorities reported the victim was a climber, but firefighters later confirmed he was a hiker. The 45-year-old man suffered multiple injuries and required urgent medical attention. The Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos de Castellón led the rescue operation. Teams from the Plana Alta Park and the Mountain Rescue Unit (URM) were dispatched to the rugged terrain. Due to the area's inaccessibility, a helicopter from the Generalitat's Emergency Service (GVA112) was deployed. Rescuers stabilized the hiker on-site before performing a vertical extraction. The injured man was airlifted to the helipad at Castellón's General Hospital. He remains under urgent medical care, with no further details on his condition released. Authorities have urged outdoor enthusiasts to exercise caution in rugged, forested areas. The complex rescue highlighted the challenges of operating in mountainous terrain.
