At 8:28 pm on July 2, in Dongxiao Township, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, a freight train on the Hukun Line failed to stop in time at Dongxiao Station and entered the down line, where it collided sideways with the locomotive of passenger train K1373, which was passing through. The accident caused the front car of the K1373 locomotive to derail. No casualties have been reported.

As a result of the accident, train K1373 was delayed for nearly 3 hours. During this time, the train’s air conditioning stopped functioning, and the temperature inside the carriages rose rapidly. According to passengers, the temperature inside reached between 33°C and 38°C, and poor air circulation made the environment unbearably stuffy.

Several passengers experienced physical discomfort due to the heat. Elderly passengers had to be assisted by railway police, and children cried incessantly from the high temperatures. Many passengers requested to open the doors for ventilation but were refused by staff, who cited “safety regulations” as the reason.

After two failed attempts to negotiate with staff, one passenger, unable to endure the heat, used a safety hammer to smash a train window for ventilation. Video footage shows a passenger in black repeatedly striking a window with a safety hammer. Once the window was broken, air circulation in the carriage improved.

At 11:27 pm on July 2, after emergency handling by railway authorities, train K1373 resumed service with a replacement locomotive. Following resumption, authorities organised passenger transfers, some disembarked at Jinhua Station, and the train's final destination was changed to Changsha Station.

The passenger who broke the window was taken away by police upon arrival at Jinhua Station. However, according to staff from the Huaihua Railway Public Security Office of the Guangzhou Railway Public Security Bureau, the male passenger was not detained and was released after receiving a warning and education.
