This is the shocking moment wild elephants raided a local restaurant and fruit farms.

Three tuskers were spotted invading the barbecue restaurant, a resort, and the gardens in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Footage shows officers from Khao Yai National Park and volunteers shooing away one of the jungle beasts in the evening on July 8.

Locals reported that the herd had been seen in multiple establishments rummaging for food in bags and trash bins.

They eventually managed to drive the animals back to prevent further property damage.

Phra Ajarn Kampanat Sukhethito, abbot of Wat Mu Si and chairman of the Khao Yai Wildlife and Environment Conservation Group, said: 'These three elephants ventured out of the national park on July 7 and 8 to search for food and fruit.'

The team of volunteers reportedly held a meeting to devise a plan to remove the elephants from the area and guide them back into the forest.

They also set up warning signs and traffic lights to alert commuters on routes where wild elephants frequently cross.

Phra added that the group aimed for humans to coexist with wild animals peacefully without causing harm.

Elephants are known for their voracious appetite. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) found need to eat up to 150kg of food per day - the equivalent of 375 tins of baked beans

Conservationists in Thailand say that wild elephants - up to 3,500 of them - have even developed a taste for human food and prefer to rummage through homes and vehicles for snacks, instead of the bland leaves they find in the forest.
