Thirsty baby elephant picks up hose to give himself a drink of water
This is the amusing moment a thirsty baby elephant picked up a hose to give himself a drink.
Dania Safitri spotted the clever calf grabbing the water tube on the ground with its trunk at Way Kambas National Park in East Lampung, Indonesia.
Footage shows the pachyderm placing the opening of the hose onto its mouth and gulping the flowing water while ambling around the area on August 1.
Elephants are known for their intelligence and dexterity, often using their trunks to manipulate objects, forage for food, and even assist other members of their herd.
Indonesia has up to 1,700 elephants in the wild. In the last 25 years, the country has lost more than 69 per cent of suitable Sumatran elephant habitat.
The main threats to wild elephants in Indonesia are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
