DIY husband saved by welding helmet when pane of glass falls on his head
A husband narrowly avoided serious injuries when a pane of glass fell on his head and struck his welding helmet instead.
CCTV footage shows Suriya Klatput installing new windows while standing on a step ladder when the frame suddenly tipped over in Samut Prakan, Thailand.
The glass shattered upon impact with his hard hat, sending debris flying across the area
The safety gear absorbed the blow and protected his head while his wife who was assisting from below, quickly backed away.
The couple was unhurt despite the sharp shards falling upon them on July 22.
Suriya said: ‘The accident happened due to my own carelessness. I attached the steel bar to the outer edge but didn't block off the inside.
‘My wife came up to help hold it, but while I was welding the window, I told her to go back down because I was afraid the sparks might hit her feet. I never expected the glass to tip over and fall like in the clip.'
Suriya added he was lucky he was wearing the helmet when it happened, which saved his life.
He said: 'It had happened while I was drilling screws instead, I probably would have needed stitches if I did not wear it.
‘Thankfully, I am completely fine, and no one was hurt. I was able to continue working without any injuries.
‘I will definitely be more careful from now on.'
