A woman and her dog stranded during heavy floods in Thailand were rescued by boat.

Farmland surrounding the pet owner's house was submerged in less than 24 hours following intense rainfall caused by Typhoon Wipha on July 23.

Footage shows the resident and her pooch taking shelter from the rain on the second floor of the house, surrounded by rising floodwaters. The canine appeared frightened and was seen shivering.

She was later rescued and safely evacuated from the severely flooded area using a small watercraft, with her four-legged best friend by her side, in Nan province.

Typhoon Wipha has been pounding Thailand with strong winds and torrential downpours.

The Thai Meteorological Department on Monday predicted more heavy rain and high seas until July 24. It added that around half of Thailand will be battered with increased rainfall due to the typhoon, which made landfall in China's southern Guangdong province on July 20.

Sukanyanee Yawinchan, director-general of the Thai Meteorological Department, said Wipha has been downgraded to a tropical depression after hitting neighbouring Laos and was expected to further weaken into a low-pressure area.
