A man was tackled by police after entering the finish line area of stage 17 of the Tour de France on July 23, just moments before the riders arrived.

The incident was captured on video by two people, Julien and Florent Mejean. Julien said, “Another one who had the brilliant idea to hop on his bike while the riders were 2 kilometers from the finish. He must have gotten seriously hurt from that fall, maybe even knocked out.” Florent Mejean added, “Incident that occurred today at the finish line in Valence just moments before the arrival of the riders of the 2025 Tour de France, stage 17 between Bollène and Valence.”

The footage shows the man riding a bicycle across the finish line in Valence. A Tour official tries to stop him before a police officer shoulder-barges the intruder, knocking him to the ground. The man is then dragged off the course by officials.

He had jumped the barriers shortly before the peloton was expected to arrive. Jonathan Milan went on to win his second stage of this year’s race.

The 31-year-old intruder from Montélimer, south of Valence, was arrested and taken into police custody after the incident.
