Soldiers rushed to evacuate villagers from raging floods in northern Thailand.

Footage shows officers helping residents flee with their belongings as floods surged through a town in Chiang Rai, on July 28.

Major General Jakrawit Seneeworayuth, commander of the 37th Military District, said 32 troops and medics were deployed to aid in rescue efforts. The locals were taken to a temporary shelter at the Wat Phrom Wihan temple.

The floods overwhelmed sandbag barriers after the Sai River breached its banks on Monday morning.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation issued flood warnings today as the Kok River water level continued to rise, with potential flooding expected in riverside communities.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
