GAZA, PALESTINE - JULY 31, 2025:Palestinians rushed to collect aid supplies airdropped by military cargo planes in al-Zawaida area of the central Gaza Strip on Thursday, July 31. Some of those who gathered in the area were able to retrieve the airdropped aid supplies, while many others left empty-handed. Bilal al-Bayoumi, a young Palestinian who came in hopes of receiving assistance, said the amount of aid being delivered is insufficient to meet the needs of the population. He stressed that, rather than relying on airdrops, aid should be brought in by truck and distributed through organized centers, allowing each family to collect supplies directly, as was done in the past. Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza for 18 years and, since March 2, has shut down all crossings, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid and worsening conditions for the territory’s 2.4 million population. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 147 people, including 88 children, have died of starvation since Israel launched its relentless offensive in October 2023. In total, more than 60,200 Palestinians, most of them women and children, were killed. On Monday, Israeli rights groups B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, citing the systematic destruction of Palestinian society and the deliberate dismantling of the territory’s healthcare system. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave. Writing by Ayse Elif Erdis
