On July 28, an unusual scene unfolded at Zhuofu Grassland in Xueshan Town, Weining County, Guizhou: a flock of sheep began circling around a herd of cattle, completely surrounding them and leaving the cows unable to move.

According to eyewitnesses, the bizarre behaviour lasted about five to six minutes before the sheep’s owner arrived and drove them away, finally freeing the trapped cattle.

Sheep are typically disorganised and tend to move erratically, but once one leading sheep takes action, the rest often follow blindly without hesitation—regardless of potential dangers ahead or better grazing options nearby. This behaviour is commonly referred to as the “herd mentality.”
