This is the shocking moment a children's watch suddenly exploded in a living room inferno.

CCTV footage shows the blue Xiaomi Mi Rabbit smartwatch laid on a table combusting at a family home in Sichuan, China.

The Chinese-made device sent sparks flying through the furniture before spinning on the surface while emitting thick grey smoke with a loud hissing noise on the morning of July 28.

Mr Han, who had reportedly placed the watch on the table the night before, said: 'I usually keep it by the bed, but luckily this time it was on a table.'

The smartwatch was reportedly purchased a year ago and is used by one of Mr Han's children. He said it was rarely worn and had shown no signs of malfunction before the incident.

Mr Han then contacted Xiaomi's customer service immediately but declined to send in the device for examination, saying he did not trust a test carried out solely by the manufacturer.

A Xiaomi spokesperson said: 'The results will be released after identification.'

The aftermath of the incident left scorch marks on the stone surface of the table.

The worried dad said: 'I was deeply concerned about what could have happened if the incident occurred while the watch was being worn.'

Xiaomi is one of the world's largest smartphone manufacturers and a major producer of smart consumer devices, including wearables, home electronics, and Internet of Things (IoT) products.

Known for offering high-spec devices at competitive prices, the company operates in over 100 countries and has a significant presence in global markets, especially in Asia and Europe.

This is not the first time Xiaomi products have sparked safety concerns.

In 2021, a Xiaomi smartwatch exploded while charging, causing third-degree burns to a four-year-old girl in China.

A wireless charger from Xiaomi reportedly exploded during use in a home in Guangdong Province in 2024.
