This is the dramatic moment a newly built temple roof collapsed during a monsoon storm in Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the 950ft structure toppling into the sea as strong gusts battered Samut Prakan, at the edge of Bangkok.

Phra Atikarn Somnuek Atipanyo, abbott of the Wat Khun Samut Trawat temple, said torrential rains struck the area on Monday evening.

He said: 'The roof covering the entrance walkway has completely collapsed, causing millions of baht in damage. We urge the relevant agencies to inspect the site and provide assistance.'

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon, leading to widespread flash floods.
