Container falls from truck injuring nine school children in Indonesia
A shipping container fell from a lorry injuring nine school children in Indonesia.
The truck was travelling to a construction site when the metal box struck a tree in South Kalimantan on August 14.
CCTV shows how the 24ft long blue container toppled onto the roadside where youngsters were waiting outside classrooms.
Paramedics arrived to take nine injured youngsters to the hospital.
Officers said the accident happened in front of SDN Landasan Ulin Selatan 1 school in Banjarbaru shortly after 11 am local time.
Adjutant Police Commissioner Embang Pramono, head of Banjarbaru's traffic unit, confirmed that checks on the vehicle showed it was roadworthy.
He said: 'The brakes were functioning, the lights were working properly, and the truck was in the correct lane. There were no signs of violation by either the vehicle or the driver.'
The officer also confirmed that the driver tested negative for alcohol.
Witnesses said the sudden fall of the container caused panic, leaving the children no time to flee. Emergency services rushed the victims to the hospital for urgent treatment.
In total, nine children were injured in the accident. One suffered a broken leg, while the others sustained cuts and bruises.
Several were discharged after treatment, but others remain in care at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital.
