This is the shocking moment a riot van struck a protester during clashes in Indonesia.

The police vehicle was battling to disperse crowds during anti-government rallies in the Pejompongan area of Jakarta on Thursday night, August 28.

Footage shows the tactical unit speeding down the highway with its lights and sirens activated when it collided with a demonstrator who had fallen while running ahead.

The injured local was immediately assisted by fellow protesters, who carried him onto a motorcycle and rushed him to the hospital.

The crowd, enraged by the incident, began attacking the vehicle involved.

Local media reported that at least one other person was struck by a police riot truck. They were later pronounced dead.

The protests began in Jakarta on Monday amid widespread anger over alleged corruption involving government officials.

Public outrage erupted amid claims that 580 members of the House of Representatives have been receiving a monthly housing allowance of 50 million rupiah (approximately 2,270 GBP) since September 2024 - nearly ten times the city's minimum wage.

Activists are calling for an end to what they describe as excessive perks given to lawmakers in addition to their regular salaries.
