An American was among eight people on board a helicopter that went missing in Indonesia.

The aircraft lost contact over Mantewe District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, on Monday, September 1.

Officials reported that the Airbus MBB BK117 D-3 (H145), operated by Eastindo Air, was carrying eight occupants, including three foreign nationals, at the time of the incident.

The Head of the Banjarmasin Basarnas Office, I Putu Sudayana, confirmed that the foreign nationals were citizens of the United States, India, and Brazil.

Sudayana said: 'Mark Werren is an American citizen, Santya Kumar is an Indian, and Claudine Quito is a Brazilian.'

Footage shows emergency crews gearing up and boarding a helicopter to begin the search mission.

Authorities stated that 140 ground personnel were deployed on the second day of the operation to comb the Meratus Mountains, close to the last known coordinates where the aircraft was tracked before losing contact.

The search was also supported by two choppers from the National Police Headquarters and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), which were used for aerial reconnaissance.

The twin-engine, multi-role helicopter departed from Gusti Sjamsir Alam Airport in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, at around 8:46 am local time, en route to Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan. It reportedly lost contact approximately eight minutes after takeoff.
