This is the shocking moment a Thai singer was stabbed at a fuel station in an apparent road rage meltdown.

Palitchoke ‘Peck' Ayanaputra, 40, reportedly downed bottles of beer and soju before jumping onto the bonnet of an oncoming pickup truck in Bangkok.

CCTV footage shows him leaping onto the front of the vehicle, forcing the driver Chutithep Khunsoongnern, 21, to pull over into a nearby petrol station in the early hours of August 3.

Chutithep's girlfriend screamed as the apparently intoxicated celebrity tried to chase the younger man across the car park.

However, Chutithep pulled a knife from his pocket and slashed at the singer, who fell over and lay sprawled on the pavement. Chutithep brutally stomped repeatedly on his head before walking away.

Officers in the Hua Mak district of the capital said they received a report at 1:30 am local time. They found Palitchoke with serious injuries, including deep cuts to his chin and left shoulder. Rescuers provided first aid before rushing him to Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital.

Chutithep remained at the scene and surrendered the eight-inch knife used in the alleged attack.

Police Colonel Naren Kruangsnaook, superintendent of the Hua Mak Police Station, said: ‘We have not yet questioned the victim, as he declined to give a statement for the time being. The suspect has been charged with carrying a weapon in public and causing injury to another person. The incident may have stemmed from a misunderstanding.'

Chutithep claimed he was acting in self-defense, adding Palitchoke had thrown the first blow.

He said: 'I thought he was a mentally unstable person after seeing him screaming and running in the middle of the road. He suddenly rushed at me, so I panicked and slashed him with the knife. It was my girlfriend who called the police.'

Krung Maitreepaen, an employee of a restaurant Palitchoke had visited before the incident, confirmed the singer had been drinking with his friends.

He said: 'During the two hours he was dining here, he appeared to behave normally and did not seem excessively intoxicated. He was still able to sing, mostly performing foreign songs rather than his own. His driver also did not drink any alcoholic beverages.

'They left the restaurant shortly before 1 am and appeared to be fully conscious, so I don't know why he suddenly went on a rampage.'

Palitchoke's record label, GMM Grammy, said in a statement that he was in a safe condition.

Police said they were waiting for him to recover before summoning him for questioning at the police station.
