A man dug up a 'rock' from his yard - only to discover it was a 10,300lbs prehistoric boulder.

Brendan Dudas, 31, moved into his home in Indianapolis, Indiana, in November 2017.

Ever since, Brendan has been frustrated by a 'rock' that he would need to manoeuvre around when mowing his lawn.

During his summer break, Brendan decided to excavate the rock, but when he started digging, he realized it was a lot larger than he expected.

On July 9, 2025, Brendan got a crane to remove the 10,300lbs prehistoric boulder from his yard.

Brendan believes the boulder is around 10,000 to 15,000 years old and has used it as decoration in his front yard.

Brendan, a teacher, said: "When we removed the boulder, I thought to myself 'oh my goodness'. "

"I was fist-bumping the air, it was so lame."

"The funny part is, I removed a rock so I didn't have something to mow around."

"Now I have a full-blown boulder I have to mow around in my front lawn."

Brendan moved into his home with hi wife and child in November 2017.

He said his lawn had always been "pretty shaggy" due to the 'rock' he would always have to mow around."

Brendan said: "In the summer break, I had some free time and I wanted to figure out how big the rock is."

"I brought out three buckets that I thought I would fill up when I got this rock out."

"When I revealed the top of the rock, I was stunned. It was a moment of trying to figure out what to do."

Brendan was concerned that the boulder was even larger than he expected.

He didn't want to immediately bring in large machinery in case the boulder extended to his neighbor's yard and messed up the foundations.

So he got help from a local crane company - which lifted the boulder out of the earth - for free.

Brendan said: "The rock weighs around 10,300lbs, and I believe it is around 10,000 to 15,000 years old."

"We found tons of other rocks, but they were a lot different from the boulder and much"

smaller.

"Removing the boulder took around 45 minutes. I was so impressed."

Brendan believes the boulder was from around the time the last major Ice Age ended.

Once the boulder was removed from the ground, Brendan put it in pride of place in a flower bed on his front lawn.

Brendan said: "It has been a fun, weird project."

"I am very happy, and it seems everyone on the internet is happy with it, too."

"The boulder has led to a chain reaction, where I want to renovate my whole home."
