A massive landslide buried a home, killing at least four residents in Indonesia.

Authorities said a large boulder carried by the rockslide struck a retreat in Banjar Cempaka, Pikat Village, Dawan District, Klungkung Regency, Bali, on January 19.

Eight people were inside performing a meditation ritual when the incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 7 pm.

Chief Executive of the Klungkung Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, I Putu Widiada, confirmed that four people were buried in the landslide.

Widiada added: 'All the victims who died have been evacuated and taken to the hospital and will then be taken to the funeral home.'

The other four victims survived, though three suffered broken bones and were rushed to Klungkung Regional Hospital for treatment, while one sustained minor injuries.

Dramatic footage shows heroic rescuers conducting a challenging operation to retrieve the victims' bodies.

Officials reported that heavy rain had battered the region since Sunday afternoon.

Landslides are common in Indonesia, particularly during the rainy season. The risk is further exacerbated by deforestation and illegal mining activities in remote areas.
