Canadian police arrest Filipina cult leader who is self-proclaimed queen
Canadian police have arrested a Filipina cult leader who dubbed herself the queen of the Kingdom of Canada.
Officers detained QAnon-inspired conspiracy theorist Romana Didulo, 50, in a raid on a decommissioned school in Saskatchewan on Wednesday.
More than 30 police vehicles converged on the suspected cult base in Richmound, a small village of around 120 people.
Authorities said 16 people were arrested while 13 imitation semi-automatic handguns, ammunition, and electronic devices were seized.
Inspector Ashley St. Germaine of the Saskatchewan Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the sweep was carried out following reports of firearms possession in the property.
She said: 'So what I can say is that one of the individuals that was inside the building identified herself as Romana Didulo, which was as I understand livestreamed as it happened.'
Romana's supporters slammed the raid as a 'gross abuse on Her Royal Majesty Romana Didulo and team'.
Footage shows a follower showing the flat tyres of several vehicles claiming police had done 'thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars and work hours' of damage.
Police said all 16 arrested individuals were released from custody later that day, but Romana was rearrested near the cult compound on Thursday for failing to comply with an undertaking after she reportedly tried to contact individuals under investigation.
Officials said the alleged cult leader was charged with intimidation of a justice system participant and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Romana, from the Philippines, emigrated to Canada as a teenager and amassed a loyal following after winning endorsements from QAnon figures, who believe a secret group of elites is engaged in child trafficking and global control. They claim US President Donald Trump is waging a hidden war against this shadowy cabal.
Through her social media, she reportedly spreads conspiracy theories, including those promoting the anti-government 'sovereign citizen' movement.
Richmound residents said Romana and her band of followers had been disruptive, citing harassment and threats toward village office staff.
