Visuals from Butwal show young protesters taking to the streets as part of a nationwide Gen Z–led movement in Nepal.

Protester Santosh Giri, who filmed and shared the video, said:
“The government has failed to deliver. Today’s protest is frustration over corruption and lack of transparency. Gen Z wants to build a livable nation with opportunities—not just a country surviving on remittances.”

The protests erupted after the government blocked 26 major social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and X, sparking outrage across the country. What started online with hashtags like #NepoKids mocking political elites has spilled into the streets, with young people demanding accountability and transparency.

In Kathmandu, tens of thousands surrounded Parliament, clashing with police who responded with tear gas, water cannons, and rubber bullets. At least one protester has been killed and dozens injured, with curfews imposed in several areas.

The uprising has spread beyond the capital to cities like Pokhara, Biratnagar, and Butwal, where youth are calling for systemic change and a future built on opportunities at home rather than remittances from abroad.
