Grand Central Terminal, New York City – A video posted on X by Rob Fonseca shows the terminal experiencing a power outage on September 25, 2025, starting around 8:28 p.m. due to a voltage drop.

The footage shows the concourse in darkness as commuters used their phone lights to find their way.

Power was restored by 9:17 p.m. There were no injuries, though five Metro-North employees were briefly trapped in an elevator.

This outage follows a similar blackout in December 2023, highlighting ongoing infrastructure challenges.

Train services continued without interruption, but the incident raises concerns about the reliability of New York’s power grid, especially as extreme weather events linked to climate change increase.

The outage also comes amid heightened attention to possible infrastructure sabotage, with reports of disruptions to fiber cables and emergency service lines pointing to potential security risks.
