Surgeons Remove 48 Foreign Objects From Man's Stomach in Bizarre Case
In a rare medical occurrence, surgeons extracted 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two sharp pens from the stomach of a 40-year-old man. The unusual discovery astonished the medical team, marking it as an extraordinary case in surgical practice.
The incident took place at Devnandini Hospital in Hapur district, in northern India's Uttar Pradesh, on September 17.
Visuals show that from a man’s stomach, 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens were surgically removed, which can be seen arranged on a hospital table after the operation.
Speaking to Newslions, Dr. Shyam Kumar, Dev Nandini Hospital, Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, stated that Sachin, a resident of Bulandshahr, had fallen into drug addiction, which left his family deeply troubled. Hoping for his recovery, they enrolled him in a local de-addiction center. However, during his stay there, Sachin developed an unusual habit, he began ingesting objects such as steel spoons, pens, and toothbrushes. Over time, his health worsened, and he experienced severe abdominal pain, prompting his family to rush him to a hospital.
At Devnandini Hospital, doctors Shyam Kumar and Sanjay Rai conducted medical tests and discovered a shocking number of foreign objects lodged inside his stomach. Realizing the urgency of the situation, the team decided immediate surgery was necessary. During the operation, the surgeons successfully removed 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pointed pens from his stomach.
The doctors later explained that such behavior is often linked to underlying psychological conditions. They emphasized that cases like this, though rare, demonstrate how mental health struggles can manifest in extreme and harmful ways.
After the procedure, both doctors confirmed that every object had been extracted and that Sachin’s condition had stabilized. Following his recovery, he was discharged from the hospital and sent back home. The medical team described the case as extraordinary, noting that it serves as a reminder of the critical link between mental health and physical well-being.
