China: Global experts convene in Wuhan to tackle water security at 2025 Great Rivers Forum
The 2025 Great Rivers Forum opened Friday in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province, igniting a global push for water security and ecological governance to safeguard the future of the world’s great river civilizations. Themed "Great River Civilization -- Global Water Security and High-Quality Development," the forum drew around 240 participants from international organizations, universities, research institutes, and government agencies across more than 20 countries and regions. Engaging in interdisciplinary exchanges, they joined renowned Chinese experts and scholars to explore integrated solutions for sustainable river governance. Co-hosted by UNESCO and the Wuhan municipal government, the three-day forum featured two parallel sessions spotlighting sustainable river development in the digital age and cultural expression in national park planning. A high-level round table also convened to advance ecological protection strategies for great river civilizations. Shotlist: Wuhan City, Hubei Province, central China - Sept 25-27, 2025: 1. So not only the engineers, but also the people from the social sciences, sociologists, archaeologists, to try to see how we can define better solutions for addressing the water challenges. And this is quite important now to bring all the actors all together because we need solutions integrating the different dimensions of those problems."; 4.
