Storyline For those who think modern technology usually finds its adoption in the digitally savvy young generations, an 82-year-old Chinese grandma defies their expectations with her active embrace of and growing proficiency in technologies in her life as a farmer. Dai Shuying is a native of Laomei Village in Tongcheng City, east China's Anhui Province. She has recently been busy assisting her grandson, Wang Tiantian, with the harvest on over 40 hectares of land he has contracted in the village. Dai recalled how she first got hooked by the new technology. "When my grandson first brought home the drone, I doubted that such a small device could really fly. After my grandson managed to get it in the air, it really piqued my interest besides making me excited. Since then, whenever he operated the drone for various tasks, I'd tag along, watch him do it, and ask him how to control it. Over time, I've gradually learned a bit about the drone," said Dai. In recent years, their family has purchased six farming machines, including an excavator, a bulldozer, and harvesters. Dai is now familiar with the functions of each one and appreciates the convenience that technology has brought to their work. "The drone can spray pesticides, apply fertilizers, and scatter rice seeds. We also have rice harvesters for reaping rice and a large tractor that replaces manual plowing. The excavator is used for digging ditches," said Dai. Wang recently shared his grandmother's love for techonolgy and life in general online, earning her widespread admiration from netizens. "She has such a keen interest because she really wants to gain a thorough understanding of everything," said Wang. Dai has also learned to record short videos from her grandson. "My grandma really loves filming videos with us, and she has such a great time doing it each time. She often says a great mood helps her stay healthy," said Wang.
