It is predicted that in the coming week, there will be rainfall in the tributaries and main streams of the Yellow River and the Yangtze River, and some areas of the rivers will see water levels above the warning level or code-numbered heavy floods, according to the Ministry of Water Resources on Monday. To deal with the complex and severe situation of autumn flooding, the ministry has ordered reservoirs along two rivers to store floodwaters, preventing floods above the warning level in the middle and lower reaches. An official from the ministry said that during this year's autumn flood season, there were numerous heavy rainfalls. Since late August, a total of nine heavy rainfalls have occurred. Since Oct 1, the main rainy areas have been the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, the Haihe River, and the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Among them, the cumulative rainfall in the Haihe River Basin and the Yellow River Basin was 111 millimeters and 105 millimeters respectively, both ranking first since 1961 for the same period. The cumulative rainfall in the upper reaches of the Yangtze and Hanjiang Rivers was 115 millimeters, ranking fourth since 1961 for the same period. "Many rivers have reported above the warning water level and the big flood volume. Since late August, a total of 130 rivers in Sichuan, Chongqing, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Gansu and other provinces and regions have experienced floods above the warning level, involving many major tributaries such as the Hanjiang River and Weihe River in Shaanxi Province, and the Fenhe River and Hutuo River in Shanxi Province. Among them, the Yellow River and its middle reaches tributary Weihe River have experienced one code-numbered heavy flood, and the Hanjiang River has undergone such heavy floods six times," said Zhao Lanlan, an official from the information center of the Ministry of Water Resources.
