Storyline: China sees big market for small drinks, snacks [Voice_over] Bite sized snacks and mini beverages are appealing to a growing number of Chinese shoppers for economic, novelty and health reasons. Staff from a supermarket in Beijing say 100 milliliter beverages and single-serve hot pot meals have been flying off shelves recently. Shoppers say the small size, and price, allow for more variety. [Sound_bite] Consumer: "I want to try more varieties, so the mini versions are actually more cost-effective." [Sound_bite] Zhuang Yuru, assistant store manager: "Consumers aged between 20 and 40 prefer small-sized goods. We are setting up a counter dedicated to single-serving small cakes." [Voice_over] A beverage company manager said the number of mini snacks and drinks on the market has dramatically increased this year. Beyond their reduced price and size, many new products are also reduced in calories, sugar or salt, which is appealing to health-conscious shoppers. [Sound_bite] Consumer: "I often check the ingredient list. Zero-calorie and zero-sugar options really fit our health needs." [Voice_over] Data from e-commerce platform Pinduoduo showed that 125 to 200 milliliter bottled drinks achieved higher than average sales between July and September of this year.
