UNCAPTIONED: Starmer Orders Mandatory Antisemitism Training for All NHS Staff
Starmer Orders Mandatory Antisemitism Training for All NHS Staff. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has ordered a review of antisemitism in the NHS, warning that too many cases are “simply not being dealt with.” As part of the initiative, all 1.5 million NHS staff will undergo updated mandatory antisemitism and anti-racism training. NHS England will also review staff uniform policies to balance religious expression with patient comfort, the Department of Health and Social Care said. Healthcare organisations will be asked to formally adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. Starmer announced the measures during a visit to the Community Security Trust (CST), alongside a £10 million boost for security at synagogues and Jewish schools. “We have heard loud and clear that words are not enough — action is what matters,” Starmer said. The NHS review will be led by John Mann, the government’s independent adviser on antisemitism, and will assess how regulators address discrimination. Jewish groups welcomed the move, with the Board of Deputies’ Andrew Gilbert saying Jewish NHS staff and patients had been “let down” for too long. Starmer also criticised universities, including Oxford, for being “too slow” to act on antisemitism after a student was arrested for allegedly inciting racial hatred at a protest.
