Storyline: China's first deepwater oil field cluster sees rapid production of oil, gas [Voice_over] In the South China Sea, the Liuhua oilfield, China's first deep-water oil field cluster, has seen rapid oil and gas production during the country's 14th Five-Year Plan from 2021 to 2025. Since it began operations in 1996, the cluster has produced 38 million tons of crude oil, accounting for more than 95 percent of China's total deep-sea oil production. Two standout engineering feats for the cluster are the Haiji-2 deep-water jacket platform. It's commissioned 27 production wells and can achieve a daily crude oil output of around 3,400 tons. The second is the Haikui-1, a cylindrical FPSO facility, or floating production storage and offloading facility, that refines and stores the crude oil collected from Haiji-2. The FPSO is nearly as tall as a 30-story building and can accommodate full-time crews. Its builders say it can operate continuously at sea for 15 years before needing to redock. Both the Haikui-1 and the Haiji-2 recently withstood typhoon level wind gusts and were able to remain in operation. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
