This is the dramatic moment a house collapsed during heavy rain in Indonesia.

Footage shows the empty home caving in amid the downpour and strong winds in the Samarinda Seberang District of Samarinda City, East Kalimantan.

Shattered cement blocks and debris were hurled onto the road, covering part of the motorway and causing traffic jams on October 22.

Two women standing in front of the structure recalled hearing a loud cracking sound, prompting startled locals to scream in shock.

Personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) immediately arrived at the scene to direct traffic and cordon off the debris.

Sergeant Imam Baiduni, a community development officer in Sei Keledang Village, said traffic was initially paralysed but has since returned to normal.

No fatalities were reported.

Indonesia's rainy season, which lasts from roughly September to March, regularly causes flooding and landslides across the country.
