A knife attack aboard a UK train has heightened public concern over railway security, with at least 11 people were injured in the incident currently under police investigation. The stabbings occurred on board the train travelling from Doncaster to London before it made an unscheduled stop at Huntingdon station to allow police to intervene. A 32-year-old British man is being treated as the sole suspect in the stabbing attack, police said on Sunday. Police said that there is currently nothing to suggest the attack was a terrorist incident. Counter-terrorism officers are assisting the investigation as authorities "work to establish the full circumstances and motivation." The attack has caused major disruption along the rail route, with Huntingdon station temporarily closed. On the day following the incident, trains bypassed Huntingdon, rerouting passengers through Peterborough, approximately 30 kilometers away. Despite the seriousness of the attack, no immediate changes were made to railway security on Sunday. UK rail travel typically does not require identity verification or security screening, and passengers are able to board trains with minimal oversight after scanning their tickets. With both train operating companies and stations managed by private entities, questions are being raised about how to balance profit-driven models with the need for public safety measures.
