This is the touching moment a passenger leaned out of a car window to give bananas to elephants on a truck.

Dashcam footage shows the kind-hearted local hanging halfway out of a moving vehicle to hand fruits to two pachyderms being transported with their mahout in Phetchaburi, Thailand.

The animals can be seen standing calmly on the moving lorry while their keeper reached out to take the bananas on October 28.

After sharing the elephants' snack, the car sped off as the pair appeared in high spirits, gently swaying their heads from side to side along the way.

The amused driver filming the scene from behind could be heard giggling in awe.

She said: 'I noticed that the passengers in the car in front of me were playfully waving at the elephants throughout the drive.

'Suddenly, that car sped up and overtook the truck. At first, I thought they were simply driving off, but to my surprise, they quickly pulled over at a roadside fruit stand. They hurried out, bought some bananas, and then drove back up beside the elephant truck.'
