Police rescued a large bear trapped inside a car in Colorado.

The uninvited visitor caused panic among residents when they discovered it hiding inside a vehicle in Larimer County on October 25.

Footage shows officers inspecting the car from outside using flashlights.

A spokesman said: ‘The first arriving deputy confirmed the claws for concern - a bear was indeed inside the vehicle, and he wasn't thrilled about the situation either.'

One officer then opened the car door from a safe distance, allowing the black bear to dash out and run into the darkness as amused rescuers watched.

The official added: 'The owners were very appreciative, despite the damage inflicted by their clawstrophobic visitor. It's unclear what exactly motivated this late-night visit - there wasn't any food stored in the car.'

They reminded residents to always lock their vehicles to prevent intrusions by wildlife or other unexpected guests.
