Private jet crashes into pond killing two onboard in Florida
A private jet that was carrying aid to hurricane-struck Jamaica killed two people onboard when it crashed into a pond in Florida.
The Beechcraft B100 King Air, operated by International Air Services Inc Trustee, lost control during its initial climb and plunged into the water on Monday morning.
Authorities said the plane departed Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport around 10:18 am local time, bound for Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay to transport relief supplies after Hurricane Melissa hit the island two weeks ago.
Shocking CCTV footage shows the turboprop striking the water and splashing on impact.
A report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: 'A Beechcraft B100 King Air, N30HG, struck palm trees after a rapid descent and crashed into a man-made pond in Coral Springs, Florida.
'The aircraft was on a flight to Jamaica to aid in relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Melissa. Both occupants perished, and the aircraft was destroyed.'
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Melissa made landfall on Jamaica's south-western coast around 1 pm ET on October 28 as a Category 5 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 185 mph. At least 67 deaths were reported as a result of the freak weather.
