- TAIWAN — NOV. 12, 2025: The death toll from both Typhoon Fung-wong and Typhoon Kalmaegi in the Philippines climbed to 259 while 114 people remained missing across the country, according to state-run media.

Last week, Typhoon Kalmaegi struck Cebu province and several areas in the Central Visayas region, leaving 232 people dead, 112 missing, and 523 injured, while more than 4.1 million people were affected, the Philippines News Agency reported, citing the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

The typhoon also severely damaged roads and infrastructure, affecting nearly 135,000 houses, of which 20,510 were completely destroyed.

The latest Typhoon Fung-wong, which struck the country on Friday night and exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Tuesday, left 27 people dead, 36 injured and two missing.

Local authorities said the typhoon affected over 4.4 million people in 15 regions including Central Luzon, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and Western Visayas.

More than 800,000 displaced people are sheltering in around 11,800 evacuation centers across the affected regions.

The storm also damaged roads and bridges, while power and water supply disruptions continue in dozens of towns and cities.

According to the Education Department, the recent typhoon damaged nearly 3,000 schools, with 1,238 of them completely destroyed.

Typhoon Fung-wong, locally known as Typhoon Uwan, exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Tuesday and is now moving toward Taiwan, where the weather agency said it continues to weaken but could still bring heavy rains to central and southern Taiwan later in the day.
