UNCAPTIONED: Boeing Ordered to Pay $35.8 Million to Family of UN Worker Killed in 737 MAX Crash
Boeing Ordered to Pay $35.8 Million to Family of UN Worker Killed in 737 MAX Crash. A federal jury in Chicago has ordered Boeing to pay over $28 million to the family of Shikha Garg, a United Nations environmental worker killed in the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines 737 MAX crash. Under a deal reached in court, the family will receive $35.85 million — the full verdict plus interest — with Boeing agreeing not to appeal. This is the first jury verdict among dozens of lawsuits filed after the Ethiopia and Indonesia 737 MAX crashes, which together claimed 346 lives. Garg’s family argued the aircraft was defectively designed and that Boeing failed to warn the public about its risks. Boeing said it remains "deeply sorry" to all who lost loved ones and respects the families' right to seek justice. Lawyers for Garg's family said the ruling delivers public accountability for Boeing's actions. Instructions: THIS VIDEO MUST NOT BE EDITED FOR LENGTH TO COMBINE WITH OTHER CONTENT
