SENJ, CROATIA - NOVEMBER 14, 2025: Investigations are underway in Croatia at the site where a Turkish firefighting plane crashed during a maintenance flight, officials said Friday.
The wreckage of a firefighting plane belonging to Türkiye’s General Directorate of Forestry that went missing in Croatia has been found, and the pilot has died, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli said on Thursday.
Earlier, the ministry reported that radio contact had been lost with the aircraft while it was flying over Croatia.
According to the ministry, two AT-802 firefighting planes belonging to the General Directorate of Forestry departed from Türkiye’s Canakkale province on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 10:24 a.m. local time, en route to Zagreb for scheduled maintenance. Due to adverse weather, both aircraft diverted and spent the night at Rijeka Airport in Croatia.
On Thursday, Nov. 13, at 17:38 Turkish time, the two planes took off again for Zagreb but were forced to return to Rijeka because of deteriorating weather conditions. One aircraft landed safely, while radio contact with the second was lost at 18:25, the ministry said in a statement.
Croatian authorities and Turkish officials continue to examine the crash site as the investigation progresses.
