Furious Miss Universe fans booed as Mexican contestant Fatima Bosch Fernandezi was crowned the winner.

Angry followers accused the event organisers of rigging the competition in favour of Fatima, who had earlier walked out when she was branded 'dumb' by the manager.

Footage shows the chaotic scenes from the farcical pageant at the Impact Challenger Hall in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 21.

Audience members can be heard accusing bosses of 'cooking' the results in favour of Fatima, whose father is allegedly a business associate of the Miss Universe Organisation co-owner Raul Rocha.

Lebanese-French musician Omar Harfouch also accused organisers of rigging the competition.

The Miss Universe Organisation denied that the result was fixed.

While in Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum praised Fatima as 'an example for women'.

She added: 'I like that she spoke up when she felt that was an injustice and that is an example.'

In June, former Miss Universe Organisation (MUO) chief executive officer and co-owner Anne Jakrajutatip resigned from her post over the alleged falsification of financial statements for her company, JKN.

On November 4, Miss Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil allegedly called Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch 'dumb' in front of rolling cameras for missing a promotional event for the pageant. Several contestants stormed off. He later issued a tearful apology in a livestream, saying: 'I am human. I didn't want to do anything like that.'

While on November 18, just days before the pageant's final night, two judges dropped out as they accused the MUO of rigging the selection process for the top 30 candidates.
