Lebanon: Tensions Flare in Lebanon After Hezbollah Backers Confront Syrian Refugees
Sidon, Lebanon - Tensions erupted in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon when groups of Hezbollah supporters attacked gatherings of Syrian refugees who were celebrating the anniversary of what they described as the “fall of Bashar al-Assad.” Witnesses reported that the celebrations, which included fireworks and chants, drew the attention of Hezbollah-aligned individuals who viewed the event as provocative. The confrontation quickly escalated into physical attacks, forcing many Syrians to flee the area. Local security forces intervened to prevent further clashes and restore order.
