Footage shows chimes shaking as a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck homes in Hokkaido, Japan, this morning.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the tremor hit 1,14km (71 miles) off the coast of Hachinohe City in Aomori Prefecture at 11:44 am local time, at a depth of 10.7km (6.6 miles).

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an advisory for a possible tsunami that could hit Hokkaido, Iwate, and Miyagi prefectures.

The quake comes just days after a magnitude 7.5 earthquake that injured at least 50 people in the same region on December 8.

Japan is highly prone to quakes and volcanic eruptions as it lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a seismically active area where multiple tectonic plates collide.
