China: China's automakers use robotics to drive new growth
Storyline China's automakers use robotics to drive new growth [Voice_over] Chinese carmakers are accelerating their forays into the robotics industry, as the boundaries between transportation, automation and artificial intelligence continue to blur. In the southern city of Guangzhou, a humanoid robot, developed by Guangzhou Automobile Group, or GAC, is on duty at a subway station where it guides passengers and assists with security checks. GAC says they hope these robots can eventually find a place in our everyday routines, much the way cars have. [Sound_bite] Zhang Aimin, head, humanoid robot development team, GAC: "Humanoid robots represent the future of sci-tech development and are a typical example of new quality productive forces. We hope GAC's humanoid robots can enter people's homes and help create a better life for people." [Voice_over] And GAC isn't alone. Another top Chinese EV maker XPeng, has just unveiled its second-generation humanoid robot IRON. Xpeng's chairman says over the next ten years he expects many Chinese automakers to shift into robots. [Sound_bite] He Xiaopeng, chairman, XPeng: "Over the next decade, many companies in China's auto industry will move into physical AI and position themselves as global players in embodied intelligence." [Voice_over] China is now the world's largest manufacturer and consumer of robots. Data from the China Center for Information Industry Development shows that the global robotics market is projected to exceed 400 billion U.S. dollars by 2029, with embodied intelligent robots alone expected to make up over 30 percent of that market.
