US: Man Found Hiding In Ceiling Crawl Space To Avoid Arrest In Marietta
Marietta, United States - December 02, 2025 A man wanted for violating a protection order was arrested after Cobb County deputies discovered him hiding in a ceiling crawl space at a home on Tremont Drive. Deputies from the Domestic Violence Unit arrived at the residence on December 2, announcing, "This is the Cobb County Sheriff's Office! I have a warrant! Come to the door with empty hands! Do it now!" The man did not respond. While searching the home, deputies noticed fresh footprints in the garage and a hole in the ceiling above them. "They saw a newly cut hole or hatchway, if you will, into a small area in between two layers of flooring," said Col. Ryan Mehling of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. Behind the thin sheetrock of the crawl space, deputies found Jason Black, a suspect wanted in Doraville for failing to appear in court and in Cobb County for a misdemeanor probation violation. "It is one of the most dangerous things the deputies have to contend with on a daily basis," Mehling said. Black was arrested and now faces charges of obstruction in addition to his prior offenses. Mehling added that it is common for suspects to hide in crawl spaces, attics, or other hard-to-reach areas to avoid arrest, especially during the holiday season.
