Shortly after, at about 1:30 a.m. local time on January 1, an explosion and subsequent fire tore through the popular Le Constellation bar in the ski resort town, killing at least 10 people and injuring many others as revellers were still celebrating the arrival of 2026. Swiss police say the cause of the blast — which occurred while more than 100 people were inside — remains under investigation, and authorities have deployed emergency services and established a helpline for families of the victims.
