Paraglider crashes while trying to launch from cafe across ravine
This is the amusing moment a paraglider tried to launch from a cafe car park but sank like a lead balloon and crashed into trees.
Footage captured by Noorwansyah Tri Satrio shows the pilot, wearing a safety helmet, walking backwards while adjusting his canopy at Puncak Palagimata in Baubau, Indonesia.
The wing can be seen lifting into the air due to strong gusts, with the man seen pulling it down to prevent it from generating too much lift prematurely on January 8.
However, moments later, he failed to gain height and lost his balance, causing him to plummet into the steep ravine.
The paraglider became entangled in the trees below, which broke his fall and prevented him from falling further down the ravine.
Local media reported that bystanders rushed to the man's aid and pulled him to safety. He was unhurt from his paragliding fail - but embarrassed by the number of cafe visitors who saw his mishap.
Noorwansyah, who witnessed the accident, said: 'We are glad that the paraglider is safe. He only suffered minor injuries during the incident.'
Authorities and experienced paragliding experts urge enthusiasts to carefully assess weather conditions before attempting to take off.
