A landslide crashed onto a mountain road, killing a driver in Vietnam.

Nguyen Van Cuong was riding a motorbike with his wife, Minh, on Wednesday afternoon, July 2, around 4:30 pm, travelling from Lai Chau to Lao Cai.

Due to heavy rain and slippery road conditions, Minh dismounted and walked behind while Cuong carefully navigated the path through Tam Duong District.

Suddenly, a mass of earth and rocks collapsed from the upper slope, striking Cuong and dragging him along with his motorbike down a deep ravine.

Upon receiving the emergency report, Lai Chau Province's Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Department, along with Binh Lu Commune Police, coordinated with local officials to search for the victim.

By around 6 pm the same day, Cuong's body was recovered approximately 660ft (200 metres) from the landslide site.

Footage shows stranded motorists waiting nearby as clearing operations continued.

Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to ensure road safety.
