This is the dramatic moment passengers wearing raincoats ran to board a plane during a storm.

Dozens of travellers sprinted toward China Eastern Airlines' Airbus A330 amid a heavy downpour at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Footage shows men and women carrying luggage as strong winds battered the airport on July 30.

The MU6933 flight eventually reached Shenyang Taoxian International Airport after more than an hour's delay due to the severe weather.

Typhoon Comay made landfall in Zhejiang province on Wednesday morning, bringing maximum sustained winds of 82.8 km/h. It made a second landfall in the coastal area of Fengxian, Shanghai, in the afternoon.

In response, more than 283,000 residents in the region's waterfront were evacuated, and over 1,900 emergency settlement points were set up across the city. Construction works were also suspended at 4,628 sites.

Shanghai Airport Group reported that around 30 per cent of flights were expected to be affected, with approximately 640 cancellations, including 410 at Pudong International Airport and 230 at Hongqiao International Airport.
