The Russian Ministry of Defense announced Monday, Jan. 12, it destroyed a Ukrainian field ammunition depot in the Zaporizhzhia region using a Giatsint-S self-propelled artillery system.
The strike targeted the Orekhov direction in Zaporizhzhia, according to a ministry statement accompanied by thermal camera footage.
Russian military operations in the Orekhov sector have intensified since the beginning of 2025, according to state news agency TASS.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that six localities were captured during the New Year period, including settlements in Zaporizhzhia region, TASS said, citing ministry data.
On Monday, the ministry claimed Russian forces had taken control of Novoboikovskoye in Zaporizhzhia region within the previous 24 hours.
The claims have not been independently verified. Ukraine has not yet commented on the reported incidents.
